Replacing rear derailleur?
I'm not really happy with the performance of the shifting (not accurate and a bit slow) on my bike and I am wondering where to start. I imagine the components on it are not crash hot and I was thinking of replacing my rear derailleur with something a bit better. The current derailleur is a shimano deore that came standard on my GT avalanche 2.0. My shifters are alivio but not sure its worth replacing those just yet. I have an 8 speed shimano cassette so l want to make sure that if I replace the derailleur it will suit my current setup.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service needs you!!!
As most of you know, I like bikes. No not the ones with engines the ones with pedals.
Anyway I digress, at the start of October I am riding across the Simpson desert, 600km of sand at 40 degrees for 5 days. This ain't no walk through the city to a sunny beach
Why? I hear you ask.
Stupidity?
Am I on Drugs?
A drunken bet?
It's actually none of the above. I am doing it to raise money for equipment for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
MTB in South Africa
I'm off to South Africa in October for a few weeks and have been told that there is some decent riding to be had (and yes, will be checking into the SA WC DH course if possible).
However I wanted to hear from anyone who may have done their own riding there including where, type of riding and bike hire.
Trail riding would probably be best bet (don't want to go nuts on a full on DH course and risk injury however if the riding is THAT good................).
Has anyone used Downhill Adventures?
Cheers
Matt
North End of Bantry Bay to be developed
I've been told today that the Land & Environment Court has recently approved development on 9-11 Bantry Bay Road.
We first talked about this here: http://nobmob.com/node/1293#comment-1767
At first thought this isn't a huge deal for riders as:
a) You shouldn't be riding there anyhow as it's part of the illegal Bantry Bay loop.
b) Any development will surely have to have some sort of border which should be on the developed land (ie. not National Park) and may well lead to a short cut round to the Scout Hut without having to take the road.
Blue Mountains?
I'm in the blue mountains this weekend and wondering if:
(a) anyone is keen for a ride on sat morning around 0830 start?
OR
(b) any advice on where to go for a fun technical ride with a few hills etc. Around 2-4 hour ride?
Any info is appreciated at this very late notice.
You can drop me a line at [email protected]
Thanks
Ben

I'm asking for your help to get Jambs Lamb across the line, he really wants to do this race and is training hard for it.
He regularly hits the podium at races including in the Elite category solo at the recent JetBlack 12 hour and is an awesome athlete.

Sweet clear vid of Ryan.
Anyone know these "best local trails and spots"? I thought I might have recognised some Oxford Falls in there but not completely sure. I'm at a lost to where most of this is filmed. Any help?
Where are the hills?
I commute from Petersham to Parramatta each day - through Leichhardt, Five Dock, Concord, Olympic Park, over Silverwater Road.... BUT, there are hardly any hills! I go over a few little ones through Concord and one in Leichhardt (Marion St) but I need MORE! Does anyone know of some good ones (3 or so minutes to the top would be good) somewhere between the inner west and Parramatta?? It'd be great if they were without heaps of traffic or traffic lights - a little circuit would be ideal and it doesn't need to be on the route I currently use.
Some Saturday Laps?
At a bit of a loss as to where to ride this weekend. The Delicious Flavours do look tempting, but...
I have to go collect the Rush from BA sometime and was thinking Saturday morning I could wonder over and collect it, and do a few laps of the Dam (perhaps with the nasty firetrail drop/return over on Bantry Bay thrown in for some hills) while there.
Anyone fancy joining a ride like that? Or for something else close by (erm... that would be Cascades then?). I'm thinking not too early, 9 or 10 perhaps?
shimano m545 pedals
Has anyone had any experience using shimano m545 pedals? They're listed as downhill or freeride but alot of review mention xc riding.
ill just be doing manly dam and redhill.
Hayes 9
Hi all,
I currently have mechanical disc brakes (I think on 5inch rotors?) and I am looking to upgrade to hydraulic but not being particularly fast or skillful, I don't want to spend a packet.
I've seen Hayes 9's for $224 delivered and they come with rotors (Front and rear) - either two 6inch ones or an 8inch and a 6 inch.

24 hour randoms (2 or 3) needed for mixed 6.
This is a shout out to all the randoms out there who want to ride it, but thought they'd missed out on a spot on the Scott 24 hour team.
See - once upon a time there was a team consisting of Jay, Dan, Pieboy, Tien & Shaz. They asked me to join them which I did.
Then Jay dropped out 'cos he wants to do it solo.
Then Pieboy dropped out because he has to work.
Then Tien dropped out 'cos he wants to do it solo too.
Then Shaun decided he might like to join.
And the way I hear it Dan (who I've never met - hello Dan) may be in or out but not confirmed.
Great social Nightride with OTB'ers and NoBMobbers
Spotted at a certain Tavern after Wednesday's social night ride...familiar faces, no more factions!

Used bike defects
Bought a bike of a nobmob user didn't have much time to check it over , the owner said all was good running order . So far replaced both disc pads, got told the chain that was on was too long the outer cable on rear derailer is too long . The rear hub needs a overhaul or better still cheaper to replace & last not least chain is bent.
Track or Trail
Just a little note. I've noticed that a lot of our TRACKS are actually being called trails. With all due respect to our American friends, this term is American and doesn't really sit quite right. Do you ever hear Kokoda trail, or Birdsville trail, or the Oodnadatta trail. Not likely.
'Track' is as Aussie as Vegemite and I think we need to use it more often. Am I being pedantic? I hope not. What do you think???
