Out door bike storage
Due to an impending (December) first addition to the family (Cigars and beer gladly accepted for sale on e-bay to fund 12 nappies a day...) I am forced to put my existing aluminium and steel framed children out in the yard!
Has anyone come across any outdoor storage solutions for a couple of bikes that are secure, weatherproof and not too expensive?
Ta,
Matt.
PS - It could all be academic anyway as riding might be cut down a bit! Still, feel free to humour me. Plus if you have an old "first bike" you were thinking of dumping...

Relax people - I'm here...
You probably don't know me, you probably won't want to.
None the less I am here, and you will forever be changed. Rejoice people for I have arrived after many years of solitude, honing my technique, reflection, and study and I am ready to ride ride ride.
I now open the floor for comment, questions, introductions and flaming....

Angry Doctor
Hi Guys,
excuse my ignorance, but a question for those of you doing the angry doctor this weekend. I was curious with regards to the water situation during the race. I understand everyone carries their own supplies (water , food etc) but is there a refill station anywhere along the way. I doubt 3 litres will get me 100kms.
Do we end up near the start after 50km, ie near our cars, so we can grab stuff before the next 50?
Thanks in advance.

new Epping-Chatswood line
Hi All,
This is my first post, got a MTB early this year. I like riding fairly flat ground without massive hills. In 2008 the train stations on the new Epping-Chatswood line will provide a great return trip (Maquarie Uni -> Pennant Hills) to the top of Pennant Hills. It's going to be a like a ski lift.

Any rides starting North Ryde end??
Any rides starting North Ryde end??
I have just moved offices to the wonderful metropolitan climes of North Ryde, and wondering if there are any tracks I can get around in a lunch break from somewhere near Julius Drive??
I know the northern walk is just right by the new office, but anecdotal evidence suggests I am not allowed to ride??
Also looking for lunchtime ride buddies....

if at first you don't succeed, try not to look astonished.

Mooney Mooney
I think this question could fit in under this topic. Does anyone know the condition of Mooney Mooney at the moment (or at least since the big storms earlier in the year).

Avid Matchmaker
Anyone considering moving their Avid levers/SRAM triggers around (like me - gonna put the brakes inboard) might be interested in this little Avid Matchmaker thing I just noticed. Didn't see it before, perhaps I'm just slow.
No, it's not some kind of super keen cupid, it's a single mount that both Avid Levers and SRAM shifters can hang from. Found a nice picture here on NSMB:
Hmmmm... Ultimate and X0....
You can even hang pop-loc remote switches off these two, as this page shows:

Extending steerer tubes
Ok, this may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if it is possible to extend a steerer tube on the top of a fork?
No I didn't stuff up. I'm looking at using a fork, cut down to suit one frame, on another one but the steerer tube on the second frame is about 30mm longer. So the drum is, the fork will still fit but would only go about half way into the stem clamp, not far enough I think, so I want to try and extend the tube. Fortunately I still have the original piece I cut off, which I'm thinking could be welded back on.
Any advice or reccommendations welcome.

warranty
in June 2007 i bought a trek top fuel 9.8 at Clarance street cycle's it is carbon fiber, today when i was on the terry hills track the chain got stuck between the chain ring and the carbon fiber back stay. this happened alot it has damaged the carbon fiber and i am wondering do you think this would be covered under warranty. also when i cleaned my bike i noticed the cable to the rear shock has gouged into the frame 2 to 3 mm when i tapped this area it sounded very hollow would this be covered under warranty?

Does anyone have the tool for the special nuts holding on the chain ring? I would like to borrow one for a short while to install a new chain ring?
Will be riding pennant hills Saturday if that is convenient.

Highland Fling v Dirt Works
Hey hey,
I have entered this years Highland Fling happening on the 11th Nov. I am doing the Full Fling!
My question is as I haven't done it before is how tough is it? I did the Dirt Works back in May which i felt was pretty hard...I have been off the bike pretty much since then with a knee injury and am only getting back to full fitness.
Any views would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Tom

Six Foot Track
The Six Foot Track is the old horse and carriage track that runs between Katoomba and the Jenolan Caves - while you can ride it in either direction (or both if you desire), when I last did it we drove to Katoomba, caught the bus to Jenolan Caves and rode back. It is a mixture fire tail, sniggle, paddocks, and steps, that take you over mountains, through forests, across rivers and over paddock fences. There are plenty of ups that hurt and brake glowing downs and about 1000 steps at the end to hike a bike up. It over 42k's because they run a marathon over the course.
