Commuting issues

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I was reading a document (not sure where) about the ammount of bicycle commuters have "incidents" with vehicles etc on Sydney streets and it said that many were unreported.
I know alot on this forum commute to work and i expect that many people have as many near misses with vehicles as i do.

So perhaps others would like to create a record whenever they have a near miss, hit or something whilst on their bikes (scumming, mtb - whatever)
This "record" could later be used for lobbying etc (maybe - I'm not sure)
A little detail perhaps would help.

I'll start off:-

Good weather, great riding, but Oh Man that hurt!

Date:
17 Mar 09

Have been riding lots recently, and a couple of weeks ago a colleague of mine casually mentioned he'd pinned a sub-33 lap...
I figured I'd have a go... Last week, not so good. Pulled around a 36 minute lap, but that involved a stack and a spew Sticking out tongue - but I figured I had it in me after that one! Shocked

Went out today, and everything went perfect! Great weather, great riding, no interruptions on the trail, and managed my first "sub-33"! Not easy at all, but it felt so good afterwards! That feels about my limit, but I guess I'll see what happens next time I try a hot lap.

Hard Hill Training

Below is a preview, click to read the full post
When:
Sunday, 22 March, 2009 - 07:30

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Cascades
Meeting Point:

End of Wyatt Ave, Belrose - this is on the East side of Garigal National Park.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

I'm doing my std hill training session but twice to cover about 50k. By doing all tracks up and down one lap becomes about 25ks. On a few occasions I've set out to do two laps but I always find an excuse to cut it short. Perhaps with some company and suitable peer pressure the full 50ks of pain can be endured.

Note, this is a reasonably hard ride and the 50ks should be covered in about 3 hours.

I set the limit to 4 but that can be extended in the unlikely event that there are enough characters out there who are intrested.

Cascades - 3 laps

When:
Saturday, 21 March, 2009 - 07:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Cascades
Meeting Point:

At the St Ives gate (Acron Oval), Douglas street, St Ives.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

3 full laps of Cascades with all gates.

This is my cross-country training ride ( have not done Cascades for nearly 6 months now). I am in for some serious lung busting punishments.

If it rains any day from now until Saturday, i won't be there, as Cascades does not usually dry out quickly.

tubeless wheels 20mm axle

I'm looking to upgrade my wheels to something a bit ligher (than Sun Singletracks) and tubeless.
only problem is that the front wheel has to be 20mm thru-axle compatible.
I want to spend around $600, which can be pushed up for the right wheelset.

I've looked at shimano XTs, but i haven't really heard much about them

any ideas, experiences, etc?

Cheers
