Stuff from the US

Looking at the prices of certain things in the US got me wondering about getting some stuff sent over by a mate out there. Has anyone done similar and got away with it?

Trail Closure Protest Ride

Love you idea here http://nobmob.com/node/5082#comment-15726 Alex.

So here's what I'm thinking.

They clearly don't want us on the bush trails, lets show them what happens when we have to ride on the road.

10 km, medium difficulty

A scenic ride that takes in the variety of vegetation types and offers great harbour and city views and nice spots to stop for picnics."

because mountain bikers are all riding round with picnic hampers i guess?

and the "useful link" underneath to rta bicycle maps has interesting results when u click on it...\\

T7 order

Hello all,

If anyone is making an order to T7 this week, can you please let me know? There is a cheap item that I want that doesn't justify the $9 mail cost by itself.

Thank you in advance. Smiling

Ride of Silence - Sat 24 May

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This seems a bit appropriate given last weeks events:

http://www.sydneycyclist.com/forum/topic/show?id...

Update: Entry in ride calendar here.

Below is some spiel from the Canberra outfit, but just as relevant here:

The Ride of Silence is held yearly in cities across the world. Riders are encouraged to wear armbands: black for everyone, or red for those who have been injured by motorists.

The Ride of Silence aims to:

- remember those killed or injured whilst cycling on roads.
- raise awareness of the need for all road users to respect one another and to use roads in a considerate manner.
- promote the importance for cyclists and motorists to obey the road rules.
- remind the community that cyclists are ordinary people who have a right to safety on our roads.

Sign at Bantry Bay

I was at the Dam today and went over the Bantry Bay. There is now a no bikes sign at the start of the singletrack. It also has a little comment about it being a Aboriginal site.

Is this new? It's been a fair few weeks since I been there.

Unfortunately I still saw plenty of bikes riding out of there who obviously ignored the signs.

The Oaks is now a freeway

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

By the sound of it someone has seen fit to grade The Oaks fire trail. It used to be rough and rocky from the Woodford gate to the Helipad and descriptions on Farkin would imply all the rocks are gone and it's now a freeway. Their post and a few pics are here (you need a Farkin account to see this):

http://forums.farkin.net/showpost.php?p=1378584&...

pics as promissed. They were taken in the first stretch after the gate. before the sign. It only gets worse.

Suggestions?: Chatswood planning a mini bicycle film festival (from Bike North) [bn_willoughby]

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

All,

Willoughby Council is planning a mini bicycle festival (two films and some shorts) for Bike Week this year (Sept). They are currently investigating venues and day of the week. They obviously want it to be a success and are asking for input to their planning so that it will be successful.

WARNING...Road contents

I apologise for the non-MTB content, but some of you (you know who you are - not you Liam!)train on the road and can probably give me some good advice on buying a second hand road bike. It's going to be a little brother for my mountain bike...

First of all, does anyone know what FELT bikes are like? I saw a second hand one (see link). What do you think?

http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bikes/show/100008140

What components do I need to watch out for (i.e. what not to buy).

Thanks
Anke

"Aussie" Moonride...NIGHT RIDERS!

For all the keen night riders out there ...

For the last 10 years the Kiwis (!) organised a fantastic "Moonride Festival"...

Sounds like a lot of fun!

See http://www.moonride.co.nz/ for details and videos...

I'm gauging interest for a similar event - here in the beautiful nightlife of the Kuringai/Garigal woods...(we can start small - the kiwis limit theirs now to 390 TEAMS...)

Would you be interested?

Road Rage against cyclists! :o

Did you see the news about the southern cross drive this morning?

http://www.smh.com.au/news/beijing2008/angry-dri...

Its why my run into mascot was somewhat disrupted...

Mate there are some impatient fu%#ers out there! And at 6:30am.... as if there is much traffic then anyway... on a 3 lane highway... plenty of room to pass!

GRRRR..

This is why I'm scared of road riding :\

Anyone up for an Andersons + Oaks this sunday ?

I'm thinking of riding Andersons + Oaks this sunday. I didn't get a chance to ride the late one organised here.

So would anyone be interested in a medium-fast paced ride catching the 9.23am train from Glenbrook (or 8.18am from Central) ?
I didn't do the Dirtworks last weekend Sad which is why I'm keen for this long ride Smiling

Cheers,

Noosa Enduro - advice pls

So, with the memories of finishing the weekend's race still fresh (albeit the 50km in 3:15) and the memories of the pain fading, I was thinking about another endurance type event, and the Noosa Enduro (http://www.usmevents.com.au/enduro/index.html) seems to hit the spot. With 8 training weeks to go, was even considering the 100km....

Has anyone done this event in the past? How does it compare to the Dirtworks or common Sydney rides? Would really appreciate any advice / info etc before my enthusiasm gets the better of me and I push that confirm button...

Thanks,
Tom.

Mountain X Round 2 Goulburn, May 18

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This race is not exactly Northern Beaches specific (it's south.... and not on a beach...) but will be good fun:

We (Rocky Trail Entertainment) are helping out NSWMTB together with WSMTB and CORC to put together the Mountain X and Dual Slalom state series. After a fun weekend in Sydney Olympic Park we are now going to the Mountain X track in Goulburn. Race is on Sunday, May 18. More info about it and online registration is at www.rockytrailentertainment.com

Online registration closes Wednesday before the event. You can also register on the day, but it is $5 extra.

Softtail HELP!! Specialized Vs Scott Vs Giant?!?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a cross country, dual suspension for under $2500. Almost half my riding will be ON-ROAD.

I will be using it for moderate/difficult fire trails and UP/DOWN bush tracks (no huge drops, no extreme downhill). My main concerns are LIGHTWEIGHT (14kg max) and at least front SUSPENSION LOCK.

Currently considering (all around $2000):
1/ Scott Aspect FX 15 (front & back lock suspension, 13.9kg)
2/ Specialised FSR-XC Comp (highly reccomended by a friend).
3/ Giant Anthem 2 <--- The talk of the town (fantastic front fork, excellent value, propedal)
