Sat 17th Ride Meeting in Cromer 4pm
Sat 17th ride meeting in Cromer 4pm.
So far three of us going, but the more the merrier! If we just do the 25km loop, it will be from here in Cromer to the start of the trail in Cromer Heights, which then takes you to near the Red Hill rock carvings, then head off from there along the different tracks to Wakehurst parkway, then head up to Oxford Falls along the road, then hit the trails from there down to the Deep Creek, and then along the tracks to Narrabeen lake, then around the lake back to Cromer. Optionally we could head from Oxford Falls along the road towards the Bahai temple and take the track down from there to Narrabeen... that would make the trip a bit longer... but we should be back before 8pm either way. We are just social riders, so don't worry if you are not super fit...
Yellowmundee Sunday 18th 7am Start
Subject says it all.
No racing at Yellowmundee this weekend so I'm heading west to join a mate for a 7am start on some sweet single track.

6.7 Reign?
Interesting... (erm, maybe, depending on your view)...
I was in Cranks (Alfred St, North Sydney) at lunchtime picking up a crank extractor.
No, that's not the interesting bit. They had a few Giant Trance '6.8' Reign 6.7 bikes there. Apparently these are limited release and have more travel (does the '6.7' refer to inches?) than the standard Trance Reign. They also had a spiffy carbon or graphite like paint job and decals.
Might be worth a look for those seeking something more DH orientated but with still a bit of XC ability.
Update Ooops... sorry, seems it's was a 6.7 Reign I was looking at. Doh! There's a story here:
Ourimbah - Sat 3 March
Ah-ha!
By popular request (erm, see, sat feb 3rd ourimbah/mooney mooney) let us partake in a little XC and DH fun at what seems to be everyone's favourite spot... Ourimbah State Forest!
When: Saturday, March 3 - 9am at the carpark and ready to ride (ie. if you need some time to fart about and adjust your gear, get there earlier).
Where: Red Hill Forest Road, Ourimbah (about 1hr North of Sydney).
What: Play by ear, but some XC and DH action sounds like the order of the day.
Ourimbah is tops, as most people know by now. It's probably not for the newbies or faint of heart, but well worth the trip if you are neither. Depending on who shows there may be grounds for a split group but the turn out here is usually tops and a social time is had by all. Bring some beers and nibbles for after the ride if you feel like it and we can sit around and debate the crashes (is Matt going to be back by then?) afterwards
Saturday 17th Feb - Oxford Falls at 8:00 a.m.
Hello all,
I am assembling an early morning crew for an assault on Oxford Falls. Did you want to enlist? This won't be one of those crazy 6:30 a.m. starts. But neither will we be turning up for a midday cruise.
The weather forecast (um, so far) is average to good. Anyone interested, please post your attendance. This includes you Peter!
Park in the usual dirt carpark on Morgan Road. Hope to see you all there.

Actually you can make it a loop, but only if you borrow an abandoned boat and transport your bike across the dam. See http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/player/1634102

MotionBased Roll Call
Thought it might be fun to do this... If you have an MB (aka. MotionBased) account, or come across any interesting people that do then shout out here.

Buying second hand
Has anyone bought a second hand mountain bike? I know that there are good points and bad points, but looking for buying tips and just looking for the best deal. Seen a bike that I would really like for sale but concerned that the warrrenty wold not be valid and taht I do not have any rights if the bike is faulty. Feed back here is always great!
New Ride category - City HotSpots
I'm new around here, but let me know what you think of this...
We can't always get to one of those sweet locations (like Manly) as often as we would all like. If you're like me I like to ride a couple of nights a week after work. After all it is Daylight savings and a great way to keep fit for those epic weekend rides.
I live in Chatswood and the idea of riding on the road (BORING) just isn't that appealing. So about two months ago I opened google earth and started looking for green patches/parks in my area. After getting a rough idea of where they were I jumped on my bike and went exploring.
Cornering tips
Thought I had to share this as it seemed like a bit of a revelation to me yesterday!
I completely by accident discovered a cornering trick that works really well for me in tight singletrack and it made me at least 50% faster through the bends. OK everybody knows all the theory of how to corner properly, get your weight right and bike leaned over etc. but that's easier said than done. What worked really well to get me doing all this right was at every corner to try and get my inside elbow behind my inside knee, so say if you're turning right, try and get the inside of your right elbow to touch the outside of your right knee.
Terry Hills, Thursday the 15th, 6pm
Hi there,
since I can never make it to the Tuesdays evening rides, how about Thursday?
Heard/read a lot about Terry Hills, I guess it's time to have a look!
Anybody up for a 6pm start?
Cheers
Carolin
What to do with your old bike
Hi there,
I just got this via e-mail and thought I pass it on. Sounds like a good idea.
Hope that's ok.

Hey guys,
for those who don't know, Mark is sending bikes to Ghana. You can see his
info at goodwillbicycles.com or at
http://bikeclub.wordpress.com/bikes-for-africa/. They are going to the
village bicycle project, mainly in Ghana - http://www.pcei.org/vbp/.
Some time at the end of next week, there should be a container coming to
Mark's place (where the bikes are), so that we can load the bikes into the
container to be shipped to Ghana. Many of the bikes are ready to be put in

Easy ride Feb 17?
Greetings again everyone. Still in China at the moment on holiday but dying to get back on the bike again after a month off on annual leave.
So anyone up for a easy slow ride on Sat the 17th? I think I'll be super unfit so something easyish like Terrey Hills is my suggestion. Most likely will be in the morning...say 9am.
I'll check here in the forum now and then in the next week or so but I won't be in Sydney till the 15th so feel free to put suggestions up if Terrey Hills preferable.
Ben

Saturday 10/02 - 8:30 a.m. at the Royal National Park
Hi all,
Was anyone keen on riding some trails down south (in that crazy Mexican shire) this weekend? I have not been before and those trails look really good. I was thinking of riding either the Royal National Park, or possibly Menai, depending on what sounds best. But we can work it all out beforehand.
Sorry, but as I have not been there before, I can't advise the skill level required.
Hope to hear some interest!

Night Ride - Tuedsay 6th Feb - Terrey Hills
Hi all,
Continuing with the current fashionable night rides I thought I should post one for Tuesday night 6th hitting the trails at 7:30pm.
There are showers forecast but i am ok to ride if it is light or patchy. Anyway it will no doubt be cloudy so lights will probably be be required, no moon in other words.
Can ride either the long track to the look out (22Km) or duckponds/center track (12Km) but will meet at Terrey Hills shops 7pm for 7:30 ride off.
If you havent done a night ride, its good fun and we ride the fire trails.
Dont be too scared about not having lights like electric sunshine as most of the respectable brands are adequate when it comes down to it. Make sure the batteries are fresh and up to a 2 hour ride.
Bike opinion
Going to change my steed after 7 years of service and do not know if I should go for the Giant Reign or Specialized Stumpjumper Pro. My riding is Manly Dam and Oxford Falls and I dont go completely crazy and do loads of jumps but would like to know of anyone either has these bikes, especially the Specialized as it has the Brain. Any input would be great.
rent a bike
I've got a friend or two who know how to ride a bike, but interested in getting into MTB...though not sure whether to fork out the money a bike yet. Are there places where you can rent decent mountain bike in Sydney?
