New to Sydney
I have recently returned to Sydney after a few years in Europe. I am trying to get back into the MTB scene, and I am looking for a ridding buddy. I live in the lower north shore, I am in my early 40's. I ride a Trek Remedy 9 and love the single track and downhill. I am a big fan of Manly Dam.
nite rider pro
i am having trouble with my night rider pro 1500, but i would like to find out whether it is the battery, or it is the charger, is there anyone that has these lights around the NORTHERN BEACHES area so i can test them...
Good bike shop in the eastern suburbs?

Sparrow Hill Kings hwy
For anyone who is interested , I rode Sparrow Hill this weekend. 26th April.
Last time I was there would have been over 3 years ago- when they had just started all the tree clearing for the Kings hwy deviation- i remember at the time it was quite sad to see so much of the forest cleared.
Well now the Kings hwy runs right through the middle of it! About 300metres from the start where the first fence used to be is where it runs through- there are several tunnels that pass under to allow riders to access the other side.
Aaron Gwin wins Sea Otter DH on a 29er
Yep, I did the double-take too. But it's true. Apparently riding a Spesh S-works Enduro 29er.

Not a lot of huck-to-flat on this course, but an interesting result nonetheless.
Tubless kits
Anyone ever had any success with Stans Tubless kits and Giant P-XC2 29er rims?
I have been told those rims can be tricky to get to seal..
Which kit did you use?
Thanks
Ken
Strava/Garmin help:- how do I separate an activity in two
I did a ride yesterday and forgot to reset my Garmin. I then went and did the Oaks this morning and it added it to yesterdays ride, including the straight line distance between the two rides.
Is there anyway of separating the two rides or even just deleting the first ride?
Here's the ride if that helps:

Here it is on Garmin connect if that's easier:
New Ride
After four months of collect and build, my new bike finally hit the dirt today.
Thanks to Committed Cycles for the help, shame they are no more. And a big shout out to Wembly cycles for helping me out today with the final details.
wasn't going for a lightweight build, but ended up 8.84kg with pedals.
Giant goes 650b
http://reviews.mtbr.com/sneak-peak-giant-650b-en...
Got talking with the guys from MC Cycles who were doing monthly bike services in our garage (freeby organised by the building manager no less!) and they mentioned Giant are bringing out 650b Anthem and Trance models this year, including carbon
Cracked free wheels after 6 months
Anyone ever seen anything like this? Looks like a casting fault that has resulted in a fracture on the free wheel. Only 6 months old. Could be a warranty job me thinks
Cyclocross forums?
I'm looking for Cyclocross forums based in Australia or NSW would be better. Can anyone point me in the direction?
are the bikeshops or online shoppers the greedy ones?
I've just spent 5 weeks in UK, Germany, Spain, France & Italy.
I found the only expensive part was was Petrol & road tolls in France & Italy. Food, alcohol, clothing, accomodation was dirt cheap. http://www.smh.com.au/data-point/rising-price-of...
Bantry Bay Apocalypse
Anyone know what's going on at Bantry Bay? I was riding yesterday along the service/fire trail that runs parallel with Wakehurst parkway and towards the end where the exit to the old shut down loop used to be (near the dead end of Bantry Bay road), a massive area of bushland has been totally levelled.
Is there a new housing Development going in there or something? There's great views across the water over to Chatswood now.
Looking for people to do oxford falls downhill with (shuttle)
Anyone people out there want to ride oxford falls downhill?
I have never done it before. I have just came back from living in Whistler for 2 years which is where I started doing downhill properly and I love it.
I have a ute but just have to build a rack so prefer someone with a ute for now. I can pitch in for petrol. My ute should be good to go within a week.
I am 32 years old. Pretty easy going so not fussed about who I am riding with or whether its just a one off ride or becomes a regular thing. Just keen to ride cause I bought a brand new Glory 1
Cheers

gopro mounting
Just scored a new gopro3 for the birthday and am after opinions on best position to mount it. I am leaning towards bar mounted but on the underside as close as possible to the centre of the bar just in case I have an OTB. Does anyone have any suggestions, not too keen on helmet mounting
Happy ANZAC Day

Nerang Trails SEQ
I had a great ride out at Nerang today. Heaps of locals on the trail giving me some great tips on where to ride. There are a lot of trails in the State Forest that are technically illegal but I think I managed to stay on track today.
Thanks to the 3 blokes with Specializeds in the car park, the Pomie guy with the Red Reign at the top of 3 hills, The three young blokes (one with a hard tail) at the bottom.
Our Blog for Joberg2C - A 9 day Stage Race in South Africa
Hi Folks,
Minter and I are now in South Africa to do Joberg2C, a 911km mountain bike stage race over 9 days....which unfortunately means we are missing the Convict 100km....although I am pretty sure that Dicko is happy about that
Berowra Valley National and Regional Park survey
If you're like me your probably getting sick of telling NPWS the same thing over and over again. But they are reviewing the plan of management for berowra valley and are specifically asking questions about mountain biking at stringy bark ridge (aka the old pony club) in pennant hills.
The survey is linked below and i get the impression that some more MTB responses would be good.
XC handle bar replacement
Hey all
Can anyone give me any pointers in regards to replacing my current alloy handle bars for carbon fiber option?
Shape, size and brand?
And is it worth replacing the stem at the same time?
Cheers
Tony

Northern Rivers trails, good or not
Next week-end… starting tomorrow actually, i've managed to get Friday off and I will be driving up the coast till Byron, with my bike on the roof.
I've planned to stop at Kiwarrak for sure, but then not sure where to go;
is there any of these I should avoid (overgrown, private etc) or exceptionally good?
• Telegraph Point (near Port Macquarie)
• Kempsey Golf
• Jacks Crossing (futher up of Kempsey)
• Jacks Ridge (near Nambucca Heads)
• Pine Creek (near Coffs)
• Bom Bom (near Grafton)
How much light is too much light?
For off-road, I've come to the view that more is better, especially when it's a nice wide even beam spread.
Here's a review article on the bar light I used at the Mont. It played a key part I reckon in my improved times on last year's event, and made a major difference to my enjoyment of the night laps.

Clipins: just do it!
Just finished 5 days at Kiwarrak - see Winco's status post. All i can say is it was paradise. But even paradise has downsides...Yes the mozzies are lethal and they bite right through Lycra so be warned. After the first day with no less than 40 bites from waist to knees (I had sprayed my legs but not my shorts!) I armoured up: tights under shorts then long shirt over my nether region then spray the lot liberally before setting off. I'm not kidding.
