Stolen Bikes Found

We found a couple of stolen bikes that had been dumped in the bush near Condover Reserve. One was a new Merida hardtail and the other was a fixie. They are at Dee Why police station if you want to claim them.

Any recommendations for a welder in Brookvale?

Hi Guys

I recently snapped the chain-stay on my steel framed roadie and I'm looking to have it welded so it can become a dedicated mag-trainer bike. Does anyone have any recommendations of someone in the Brookvale area who can do a half-decent welding job and doesn't mind doing a one-off little job? It doesn't need to be show quality, just structuraly sound as it's never going to be on the road again.

Dicko gets the Marathon Champs title!

A long time Nobmobber has just gone and got himself a win up in Atherton for the National Marathon Champs.
Wayne Dickinson came from third in Masters on the second lap to a first place on the final lap.
Awesome result on what was meant to be a bloody tough course with 1000mtrs climbing per each of its 33km laps.
Also well Done to Brian in vets who came from around 7th to get 4th at the finish. So close to a podium Mate!

Ride Options for tomorrow morning - is anywhere dry enough?

Well Sydney's soaked, but are there any trails close to Sydney that are dry enough to ride tomorrow morning? Does anyone know if The Oaks is OK to ride? Might have to resort to a road ride, but I'm trying to avoid it...

Stuck saddle...please help

Hi, I want to remove my saddle off my Crankbrothers seatpost. I've undone the bolt completly but because the saddle is one of the big recepients of dirt from our rides it just wont budge. I've tried twisting it...it doesn't budhe and have even given it a few sharp bangs....NOTHING happening....seems like they have a lifelong friendship.

Anyone got any hot tips on how to divorce these two friends as I need to transfer my saddle to a new bike?

Cycling facilities in North Sydney under threat of removal

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This will be of interest to most nobmobbers who use commuting to work in or around the CBD as training for their weekend rides on the dirt.

North Sydney Major Jilly Gibson appears to be developing a reputation for an anti-cycling bias.

Why is this important?
On 4 March 2013, North Sydney Council deferred the upgrade to the shared use path through St Leonards Park. On 8 April, Council accepted a petition from 80 people “opposing bicycles being allowed to use St Leonards Park, except when used for leisure”.

Where to go for an all day ride within 3 hours drive of Sydney CBD

I have no plans for Anzac day so was going to go for a decent ride.

My criteria are, around 3 hours drive max from CBD, a decent loop (50km +) available without repeating lots of sections and preferably somewhere I've not been before.

Current thoughts are Kowan Forest, Great north road or Nowra.

Any suggestions/opinions would be appreciated and if anyone wants to join me I'd be happy for the company.

Hydraulic Brake Prob.

I'm new to mountain biking, i haven't ridden my bike for 2 months, and when i went to move it today, it felt like the rear brake was engaged, you couldn't spin the wheel freely. It has hydraulic brakes, any help would be appreciated.

Check your tyres

My old tyres, Front: Kenda nevegal, rear: maxxis ikon 3c exo (both stans tubeless), were getting a bit low, so went to replace them, and found this on the ikon, in three places. Lucky find, more than likely this would have blown out in the middle of Andersons somewhere.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes - Problem

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Yesterday I received my disc brakes from CRC. A set of Avid Elixir 3.
I think there may be a problem with the pistons or pads?? There is very little room between the pads on the rear calliper. The wheel side pad/piston doesn't seem to fully open and I cannot get the calliper aligned so the pads dont rub on the rotor(even with he Avid CPS system).

Earlier when I was installing the brakes and went to remove the rear pad block/spacer, it wouldn't come out easy. Was jammed. I had to pull hard to remove it. The lever was still in bubble wrap and had NOT been pulled.

Thought I would share an article from last Tuesdays Penrith Press (April 9th, 2013).

Edit:
Just found a related article in the Western Weekender How tragedy can bring hope (Friday April 12th, 2013)

His target is almost 3/4 complete, I encourage everyone to make a small donation and help get Marc and his family over the line.

Freeload bike racks

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

All,

Many moons ago I bought a Freeload bike rack, thinking that I'd make great use out of it bike touring all over the state. Fast forward two years and I have dusted it off, set it up properly and now I know why people were/are raving about it.

Despite my best efforts I've realised I need a front rack for the dually (as well as the rear rack I already own - with the side panels). No one seems to be stocking Freeload racks anymore and Thule dealers suggest July 2013 is when stock comes in. I'm in a bind as I head down to the snowy mountains next weekend.

Time ATAC XS pedals... worn too soon ?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hi All..

Just wondering if any other time atac XS user out there is facing with the same issue as I am.

These pedals are only 1.5 years old, my right foot is normally the foot that I unclip 99% of the time and because of that the pedal have developed a worn/concave section on the main body. They are quite loose now to the point where they can unclip whilst pedalling hard, especially when you're pulling the cranks up with your hamstring. I've demoted them to commuting duties.

9 speed chain ring

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I am looking to move from 8 speed to 9 speed. My rear derailleur is nearly dead, and rather than buy an 8 speed I will upgrade the whole drivetrain to 9 speed.
Are the actual chain-rings 8/9 speed specific? Or will any chainring work?
Same question for cranks. Will any cranks work or do I need specific 9 speed cranks?
I am pretty sure that I currently have a 9 speed front chain-wheels and/or cranks. The crank has the shimano 'mega 9'sticker on it. But they work fine with my 8 speed setup.
Would be great if I can still use the same crank and chain-rings. The chain-rings are brand new.

Place to go for a four day mtb trip?

Hi all.

We are planning to go for a three or four day mtb-trip in a couple of weeks.

As we are exchange students from norway, currently living in Sydney, we do not know very much about places to go for mountain bike riding here.

We are therefor surching for tips on places to go and trail to ride here! Any tip is very much welcome!

We are planning to brink a small pack with tent, so a long circuit trail/route is fine.

I.ex is the snowy mountains a good place to start?
