Altitude Sickness.

Being born and lived all my life about 5meters above sea level, has anyone or know anyone that has experienced riding in altitude. I’ve done Whistler but you get lifted up to approx 2200meters and the villages are all around 650meters and there’s no problem. I’ve got an opportunity to go to Mont Blanc via Hungary. Do a search for Mont Blanc Mountain Bike tours and get ready to catch some drool.... Land at Geneva ride through Switzerland, France and Italy. I just cant find anyone that has experienced riding at real altitude first hand.

Mont 2014, 24 Laps in 24 Hours

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

For the Mont 2014 my uncle has set the task of trying to complete 24laps in 24hours, as either a 6 or 4man team.
Currently he is not super fit, but wants to try and push for this to help him into shape and really see what he can do. I am not sure this is achievable for a bunch of average joes with other things going on in their lives, but he seems pretty committed.
so i ask:
How much training did you do, and how many laps did your team do this year?

He is thinking that if we are doing 300km (road and MTB) a week for a month or two before the event then we should be able to do it.

Female riders Northern Sydney

My girl has just got into MTB riding and when she cant ride with me she is looking for girls to ride with, she is not yet fully bike fit but is working on it so not looking for race pace or anything like that. She has just been riding the Perimeter and Long tracks but now has a new bike so we can advance onto other trails.
so if there are any girls out there looking for a riding companion sing out!

Here is one for the Sydney commuters

This is a pretty cool vid from rideable.org.au which has used actual random GPX to compile commuter routes to work.

Enjoy!

Night Riding Advice

A few questions about night riding:

1. Do many people ride Manly Dam at night?
2. If I did a couple of laps of Manly Dam would I see anyone out? What are the chances?
3. Unfortunately it looks like I will have to ride solo as no one else is keen, what precautions should i take?
4. I know Manly Dam really but will I find it hard going at night?
5. Any other advice/tips?

Thanks alot.

Well it seems like New Zealand is leading the way when it comes to cycle tourism. The New Zealand government and its local councils have made a commitment of $80 million to build off road cycling trails. They are already leading the way in cycle tourism and are going to attract even more riders.

24 hour MTB race to be run at Manly Dam next year.

Just caught up with a guy I know very well in council. There are concrete plans to have a 24 hr MTB race around the dam sometime soon. As part of it 2km of existing and new single track will be cut in on the southern side climb.

About time I say! Should be announced shortly.

I did manage to glean a contact to get more info... all correspondence for sponsorship etc to [email protected]

OMV - The best place in the world?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

How good is Old Man's Valley at Hornsby? I did a few laps there this morning then took my 9 and 12 year old boys there this afternoon. My 12 year old said it's "one of the best places in the world - like an amusement park but free!". And they both said now they can see why I'm so obsessed with mountain biking. It really is a great facility - I saw everyone from elite riders to guys on Huffys and parents with kids, but they all had one thing in common - they were smiling. Old Mans Valley is a fantastic example of a great MTB facility in the heart of suburbia, and great use of disused land.

DOT 5.1

hi guys,
just wondering if anyone has any experience with using standard moto/car 5.1 brake fluid instead of the original Avid fluid.
this is for a set of XX brakes and Avid recommend using only their own branded fluid....
thank you

Ayup lights

Hi all

I am looking to get some lights which I can use for trail riding at night as well as on a commute home from work at night. I was thinking about buying ayup v4's, but before buying I thought I would see if others are using them and what they think, or if people have other any lights they prefer for around the same price.

Thanks
Adam

Last Minute Trail Advice

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So... I'm taking out a new rider this Sunday morning and I want to give her a great experience that turns her ON to biking, not off.

I rebuilt a vintage HT Cannondale F500 for her to use (not a big $ investment). She currently cruises around on a hybrid Giant and loves it, so she knows about gearing and braking and such. But she's never really been off-road.

Any advice on some beginner trails that would turn her to the light side of the force would be appreciated.

Things to consider:

1) I'm picking her up in Concord, so I'm thinking Sydney North would be a good area to ride.

Buying in bulk - things you replace often!

Hi, I am looking after the servicing of about 5 bikes for other people and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for bulk buying for cable inners and outers, tubes etc...etc...the stuff you replace often.

I found a site in the states where you can buy 10 inner gear cables and 20 metres of outers, but they wanted $47 for postage and the purchase was only $51.

Cheers

Andrew

Awaba or Glenrock for Easter ?

Hi All,

Just wanted some input or suggestions for the upcoming Easter holiday.

I will probably head up that way this Saturday for a day trip with the wife and kid and will probably have a couple of hours at most for a quick ride,
which of those 2 trails should I go to. They both have excellent reputation for being a great MTB trail network.

Are signs posted up on those 2 areas ?

Cheers,
Mario

Tyres

I've put some new maxis tubeless tyres on my 29 inch rims and when they rotate it feels like I'm riding on an egg. I've pumped them to a high pressure and they have popped into place , but are still not even on the rim. Any ideas. Thanks
