So much gear I need to get so I need opinions please!
Ok, so I've got my bike, my helmet and my riding computer. But that's it so far, and I'm in need of so much more. But after a few attempts at wading through the myriad of options I'm starting to get swamped, so I'm opening this up to you all in the hope that I can get some constructive opinions on what to get and from where. I have noticed the prices on CRC seem to be very good compared to our retail prices here in OZ, so would you all advise I get MOST of this stuff in one batch order from them? (Of course opening up the same order to anyone else who is after stuff)
Tree Top Adventure @ Ourimbah
Have just updated the Ourimbah page with the info below but thought it worthy of separate note. This is a great idea by State Forests to get more families out and visiting them.
In January '09 we noticed that a Tree Top Adventure Park has opened where the lower car park used to be. This appears to have some temporary amenities right now, but no doubt something more permanent will come.
$1.7 billion for "critical deferred maintenance" in the National Park System
No, sorry - not here!
It's all monopoly money over in the US of A anyhow, so why wouldn't they slosh some the way of the National Parks? Google around and you'll discover in the recent economic stimulus program $1.7 Billion has been set aside for "critical deferred maintenance" in National Parks. This includes trail building.

Wanted - Small Dual Suspension Bike
Hi all,
I'm looking for a dual suspension bike mainly for XC use e.g. Trance. I'm 173cm so needs to be a small frame or maybe a small medium. A bit strapped for cash right now so budget is <$2000 but *might* be able to stretch this depending on the bike.
Let me know if you have something suitable!
Cheers
How to fix your Garmin Edge
For all those who have an Edge that powers off randomly - this might be something good to try:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t400936-garmin_edge...
There's a nice thread here on how to disassemble the device in the first place:
http://forums.motionbased.com/smf/index.php?topi...
BTW - while we're at it, if your Edge seems completely dead it might not be. If you haven't used it for a while plug in the USB for a while to make sure the battery is not dead then try this:
TAke care in Cascades
A neighbour of mine has just returned from some hill training in Cascades and said to take care on BAre and Heath Tracks.
Bare track looks like it has had recent dirt bike action and has several "small" trees down across it. Not sure if this is from the winds yesterday and last night or from locals trying to stop the dirt bikers. All are small enough to ride over but mind your rear mech.
First ride on the Reign 69er - awesome!!!
Posted this on MTBR.com...
Well, I built my 29" wheel (TN719 with Geax Saguaro tyre) and swopped out the fork (Manitou Minute 29er 100mm travel with 20mm through axle) in place of the Fox Float 140mm).
Cut the steerer down to 225mm (compared with 200mm on the Fox), but used spacers on top so the bars were more or less the same height as before. I didn't flip the stem and all in all, the geometry and riding position was pretty much unchanged (the lower travel and the the extra wheel size cancelling each other out).

Bearing replacement
One set of the bearings in both my headset (Ritchey Pro Semi-Integrated Press Fit) and in my bottom bracket (Shimano XT Hollowtech II) are starting to make crunching noises - so I guess both got dirt and water in and corroded the bearing or the race. I have tried cleaning and lubing and that does seem to help for a few rides but I suspect the bearings are gone.
New shoes - info wanted
I'm toying with the idea of getting some lightweight shoes for XC to replace my everyday Shimano DX shoes (which are great but heavy) for racing in. I figure weight saved on the end of the cranks has to be the most efficient place to save it out of the whole bike.
I like the look of the SIDI dominators but they are expensive, can anyone recommend anything else, priced under $200 if possible?
Thanks.
the beast is now on ebay if anyones interested?
just put my beast up for sale on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem...

help with pedals
i got some new pedals. and the old ones on the bike seem to have rusted on in the 2 yrs there been on there, i have tryed everything i know, wd-40, freeze spray stuff, 3 people holding the bike down while i try and undo it and a 4 foot pole on the end of the spanner, it didnt end well the spanner snapped and i went crashing forwards(it shows to pay alot when you buy tools not cheap crap) the last option i been thinking of is heating it up, but this may cause more problems itself.
is there a tool to undo them. or what have you done in this time
Flat bar
Hey we are currently trying to find the best setup for Vaninas bike, We are looking for a narrow flat bar to borrow and see if that works. It would be best to get one with a 31.8 clamp as I have more stem lengths to work with but either will do.
Cheers for the help.

Leaky rear shock - service or replace?
As the title suggests I am loosing pressure in my rear shock, a fox float R. It's on my 04 Stumpjumper and will be coming up to 5 years of abuse this year. It is a very gradual thing but its a pain. Is it worth servicing? or getting a new one? Looks like I need a new wheel set too so it could be a costly time especially seeing as I actually want to buy a new bike, Mountain and Road.
Andos Extras? Kedumba Valley Road?
I was looking at the Andos map earlier and notice there are a few trails to the West of Kings Tableland road, around where the hospital is.
One of these is marked "Kedumba Valley Road" and looks to go to a lookout. Erm... and then down into the valley. If that is truly there must be crazy steep! Anyone been there?
Also - between Kedumba and Kings Tableland there looks to be a couple of shorter trails, very narrow one of 'em. Is this sekret sniggle?
Riding without a chain
Tip of the day:
When one is rolling their bike around a carpark (you know... to be sure the tires are on correctly and feel OK), but without a chain on the bike (you know... 'cos you have taken the old one off but yet to fit the new one), do not stand up on the pedals!
If you stand up you'll forget there is no chain on your bike and try and pedal off, smashing your leading knee against the bars and almost OTB'ing at the same time.
Doh!
