Newbie help appreciated re. MTB choice
Hi
Just rode a dual susension mountain bike for the first time and am hooked!!
I'd appreciate any recommendations for a first purchase. I'm 5'9", weigh about 95kgs & am a novice rider.
At the moment, I intend to ride off road (manly dam etc) nothing too radical.
My budget is limited to about $2000 or a bit over. One bike I am considering is a Gient 2009 Anthem X2 new for about $2200.
Any info or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mt Buller
I've just been to mt buller for 3 days of down hill riding/crashing. My mates and I had an awesome time there.
all rode Giant Glory Dh1's. if anyone is interested in going down its well worth it.

Adjusting rear derailleurs - aka "More stuff I should know how to do"
So, every time I get my bike serviced it shifts gears really smoothly - until I actually take it for a ride...
Bottom Bracket Replacement Tips
I am replacing the bottom bracket and crank on my Trance X0 tonight and just wondered, is there anything that is a big no no or a must do when doing this. Something like, greasing the BB threads etc.
Dam weather
Anyone thinking of riding the Dam tonight - just wondering with all this rain what the conditions were like?

Clone Tab
By popular demand (really?!) we now have a 'Clone' tab on ride meetings. This is for all those too lazy to copy/paste the text from previous rides when repeat often (no - we will not introduce an auto-repeat - that is just too lazy!).
Just remember to change the date/time and title (it inserts, "Clone of" by default) when using this.
Enjoy!
WANTED: Old 9 speed shifter
Wanted, any old 9 speed shifter you might have laying around the shed. I don't think it really matters what it is, it's for a Shimano 9 speed cassette on my Frankenstein bike.
Cheers
SOLD! Schwalbe Racing Ralph Evolution UST 26 x 2.25
New Tyres For Sale: Schwalbe Racing Ralph Evolution UST 26 x 2.25
I bought these excellent tyres with the most recent CRC group buy. They are great and live up to the fame (lowest rolling resistance, excellent traction on local trails) - but I need wider style tyres for my Enduro. I've ordered these in size 26 x 2.25 to replace the 2.3's Spesh Enduro Pro (baggy) on my AM bike. These 2008 RR's 2.25's are narrower, more like 2.1's (fast!) and would be excellent for any XC-style competition bike (great for Sparrow Hill...)
anyone know a spray painter who would spray a bike frame?
i want to re spray a hardtail frame of mine and need a pro job done on it. Does anyone know of a good spray painter who would take the job of painting it a single colour. I'd prep it and undercoat it then take it away for new decals then bring it back for the clear coat. I'd do it myself but its a very nice frame and want a very nice job done.
Free to good home - used track pump - read carefully
Hi All, I have a Serfas TCPG track (floor) pump that I no longer need, free to a good home.
It does, however, have two issues and would suit someone who likes fixing things, or doesn't need a pump that does Presta (French) bike tyre valves:
* Pressure dial plate/needle keep moving off centre, which affects readings. You can probably sort by placing a needle stop on the dial plate and gluing the dial plate with a dab of shoo goo in one corner.

Imageshack 'link for forums' doesn't seem to work. Any advice for future posts?

FS: 4 x Hayes Brake Pads *** SOLD ***
Having a clean out... I have here four sets of Hayes brake pads looking for a new home (as I now run Avids). They look like this:
2 sets of Alligator brand, brand new in shrink wrap. On T7 currently 15 bucks an end (http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/ALBZPN8BP)
2 sets of EBC (I think they are EBC). These have a blue back with "G+" printed on them. I carried them inside a small plastic box between foam on the trail and are in perfect condition. Never used.
Snakes !!!
After running over a beautiful brown snake yesterday on a firetrail in my neck of the woods (Campbeltown)and i was going too fast ( 30 odd k) nah read too scared, to look and see what it did after meeting Maxxis . I have noticed quite a few of these beautiful creatures and was wondering how many others have seen these guys around the tracks you ride this summer . Of all the snakes i have seen only one , a 2 metre plus black has reared up at me and just as quickly buggered off , it was bloody scarey and exhilarating at the same time ( just like me riding trails above my technical ability )
Canberra warm up ride - Sparrow Hill and Stromlo or Majura
So the Mont is fast approaching and I at least, have not ridden Sparrow Hill.
Chatting with a few folk over the last few days it seemed like a good idea to get a ride organised down south. The two day option with the night in Canberra. Folks are welcome to do just the one day if they wish.
Where - Canberra, definately Sparrow Hill and then a discussion on the second day.
When - A few weeks before the Mont. Feb 28 March 1st weekend. (Not 7/8 March please)
Lets discuss the ride options and numbers. Will post up as a ride shortly.

For Sale - 2008 Mongoose Teocali Dual Suspension Mountain Bike (Large)
Hi Guys,
I’ve made the hard call to sell my current bike due to a current knee injury. I’ll keep this short and sweet but I’ve put my bike on Ebay (so as to let the market determine the price of it), so if you’re interested you might get a bargain as it’s starting at $0.01. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Nationals Report
Here is some up date..
After a horrible night in the rain ...we got up to a clearing sky.
The track was was damp with a few puddles, this makes for a very different track to the Scott24. Well Vanina was in the first group of races for the morning. After bit of a rushed start with been very disorganised (rider that is) they were off and racing. Vet woman which Vanina was racing did 3 laps of a 7.5km ish course. V Finished In FIRST place over a minute clear of second.
NoBMoB now has an Australian Champ as part of the Group!!!! YEAH!!!!
Both Alex and myself will race at 8.30am tomorrow. We will update once we finish tomorrow.
The racing is bloody good to watch. Looking forward to the 4X tonight.
Over and out!
PDA software MyMotion for GPS route tracking
I was looking for software for free that I could use on my PDA Dopod
D810 aka HTC P3600 which has inbuilt GPS. I came across:
http://users.bigpond.net.au/ian_pendlebury/mymad...
Provides tracking info and data such as altitiude, distance, time etc
unfortunately no HR ability.
Unsure on battery life as can't ride at present due to a hand injury
at the dam but a test in the car with the file saved to a kmz file
and emailed to my PC showed excellent accuracy with distance markers.
