Mont Training: Hill Repeats at Terrey Hills

When:
Sunday, 6 February, 2011 - 07:30
Ride Database Entry:
Duck Hole/Terrey Hills Trail
Meeting Point:

Although we don't normally ride this trail on it's own, with a bit of road work it makes a nice loop from Terrey Hills shops (on Booralie Road) then onto Centre Track and back along the road to the shops.

That's the same as the more standard Terrey Hills rides.

-33.682365, 151.227937 (Terrey Hills Shops)

After a warmup ride down the Duck Holes trail to McCarr's Creek Rd, we'll turn around and do 4 to 5 repetitions of 5 minute climbs back up Duck Holes, followed by a cruise out to Perimiter and Long and possibly a diversion to Cowan, at endurance pace.

The goal here is to get our climbing legs ready, as the trails at Kowan are supposed to have a few more climbs than the previous venue.

-33.682365, 151.227937 (Terrey Hills Shops)

After a warmup ride from Terrey Hills Shops to the bottom of Duck Holes we'll be doing:
* four to five x 5 minute seated, low cadence climbing intervals back uphill along Duck Holes with 5 minutes recovery in between
* back to Perimeter and Long possibly with a few diversions to run out the time at endurance pace

This is Session 3 from Mark Fenner's Fitness: Training for Endurance Racing published in June '10's issue of AMB.

If you can't do the full ride time that's OK. The key part is the hill reps and the first hour thereafter.

This wont be a fast ride, I fly in from the UK in the morning and am hoping to get out on the bike a little bit in the afternoon to try and blow out some of the jetlag cobwebs.

If I am to knackered I wont get out, but hopefully I should be ok, 2 laps is gonna be the maximum and more than likely just one lap!

Cancelled: I am a bit knackered so going to relax.

Wingello single track fling experience

When:
Sunday, 7 November, 2010 - 09:00
Ride Database Entry:
Wingello State Forest
Meeting Point:

4Km SW of Wingello village on Caoura Rd there's a small base camp within the forest - seems as good a place as any.

-34.715945, 150.191268

Last chance to ride the singletrack sections of the fling before the big day.

Aim is to complete some laps of the singletrack with minimal time on the fire trail.

All welcome, not just fling entrants. The tracks at Wingello are great and every rider should experience them. At least the first lap will be "no drop" and after that we will try and get some pace.

I will look to be at the old bike shoppe in Bundanoon at 08:00 for a coffeee and depart at 08:30, so anyone not familiar with the meeting point can meet there.

Badly needed training for the Fling. This will be a mega-loop on the Northern Beaches, about 70km all up. Starting at Cascades, up to Wildflower Garden, across to Terrey Hills (L + P + DH + C), down Powderworks Road, along Slippery Dip Trail and Morgan Road through Oxford Falls, arrive back at Belrose. Home, beer, big steak dinner and then bed.

Main aim is to finish rather than flog myself. A decent pace but mainly try to stick to brief stops but this will all depend how the legs feel as have not done a ride this long.

I am badly in need of some time on the mtb before the Fling. Planning on heading to Duck Holes, up to Centre, around to and along Perimeter, out and back to Long and then Cullamine, Sandy & Larool. All up about a 40 km circuit, not at breakneck speed by any stretch of the imagination but I would like to limit stops and keep a constant pace.

This is early so not expecting takers but thought it worth posting anyway. There is also the small matter of pending storms that are supposed to come through, I don't mind a bit of wet but don't want to ride in gale force winds!
