HMBA receives funding for toilets at Awaba.

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Yesterday HMBA received confirmation from the Dept of Spor and Rec that we would be receiving a grant for toilets at Awaba.

This is great news for the club and will contribute to a much needed amenity at the Awaba trails.

The club had resolved to go ahead with the toilets at the last committee meetings, so the grant will allow funds that had been allocated to the project to be diverted to the new expanded carpark, new shuttle turnaround and ultimately the next phase of trail design and construction.

New event??

From BlackHeart Events:

"Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for a big announcement on a future event. 100km? 100 miles? Bigger? All will be revealed soon, but it's going to be a corker!"

Interesting....

Email response to wet weather

I sent an email a couple weeks back when we had all the wet weather about the fact that the dam wasnt actually closed, finally got a response.

Apparently all that rain, hadn't "adversley affected the track".

Lefty Hub with QR

Something new that has been developed. Good if you have a lefty and need to remove your wheel for transport.

Anyone ridden Red Hill lately?

Just wondering what is the state of the trails? Seeing it's been dry for a week or so, hopefully it's ok.

Good news week

The sun is shining at last, with this and other news giving us a real feel good factor this week.

Flynny reports that CTMBC have a $30K Grant awarded to help build new DH. While this will be a little far (Lithgow) for most here, the other big news out of the mountains is that the outcome of the Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC) meeting was a great result. Basically, it seems that BMCC have voted to develop some authorised riding trails up in the Blue Mountains. Well done to everyone on that campaign!

Given this week's dry weather we have a local off road ride in the calendar after what seems like too long! To ease back into things, come alone to Super Easy Terrey Hills this weekend Smiling

Or will you be back on the training regime? With readers noting that Scott 24hrs entries are open. If a 24hr is too full on then consider that Highland Fling entries open - but be quick with both of these! Or what to race this weekend? Saturday sees Rd 1 - Rocky Trail MTB GP Series 2010 - 4H+8H at Awaba. Great course to begin what should be a great series.

Finally some popular chat from the forum (as shown in the new recent hot listing): nh asked (maybe optimistically), What is my bike worth?, we had a bit of fun guessing where this Reading material was located, were reminded that changing Shifter Cables should be done regularly while clipless pedals and brakes threads seem to cause as much debate as usual.

Front Derailleur Problem

I recently bought a new frame for my girlfriend which meant the front derailleur from her old bike didnt fit on the new frame. I got another FD from a friend that fitted the frame. It is a shimano deore (dual pull). I have connected the cable from the top of the FD and adjusted it, but it is INCREDABLY hard to shift from the smaller to a bigger chain ring. The shifters are SRAM X7 and when they were on her previous frame with a Sram X7 FD they worked fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve my problem?

4hr at Awaba this weekend - which bike?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've entered in the Rocky Trail 4 hour race at Awaba this weekend. I had the best of intentions to get there and check out the course prior to the race but that just hasn't happened. So I'm wondering: what is the course like and which bike?
Do I go for comfort and ride the Stumpjumper dually, or do I ride the Gary Fisher 29er hardtail?

Wheel builders

Hi guys
In this climate of instant coffee and instant wheels, where LBC's are more inclined to sell you a whole new wheel or it costs a fortune to build up a new wheel, can anyone recommend a N beaches LBC wheel builder that's got a great track record; or have you got some experience on the matter that you can share?
thanks

Shifter Cables

Hey All,
I need to invest in some decent shifter cables. I have successfully destroyed an alligator "bullet proof" set, followed by an XTR set.

I run full length housing, but i find that the housing usually splits through the end caps. The housing fray at the ends.

What can you recommend for me?

PS- don't want to break the bank (Nokon is out of my price range)

Gore Ride On?
Jagwire?
Avid Flak jacket? got bad reviews on MTBR

cheers

Garmin firmware update

FYI there's a firmware upgrade available on the Garmin web site for Edge 605/705 devices.
From 3.10 to 3.20, June 14 2010

One item that caught my attention that I had questioned Garmin support about in the past, and ultimately requested as a future 'feature' is:

Backlight setting now saved to configuration and set automatically on power-on.

I've updated my 705 and will test it out tomorrow.

cheers
Jon

What is my bike worth?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I am going to sell a bike to my mate and wondered if you guys could help me work out what is a fair price for it. I don't want to rip him off or short change myself and since this was my first mountain bike I am a bit too attached to be objective.

Jetblack 12hr venue changed

Hi all
i received an email last night from Rocky Mtn Entern and they adv that the event is being moved from Yellomundee to Dargle Farm (outcome of meeting with NPWS).
So much for our recon rides at Yellomundee.
I've emailed RME asking them if the Dargle Farm venue is open to the public outside of race days but no response just yet.
Does anyone know if it is open to the public and if so has anyone ridden there lately?
thanks

Night Ride Tuesday or Thursday

Anyone interested in a night ride at either Cascades or Duck + Centre then in reverse either Tuesday or Thursday evening starting at about 6:45pm? The Angry Doctor is 10 weeks away and that will fly past so I need to start getting in some hills Smiling

Cascades - anyone ridden it after recent rain?

Just want to know what the track condition is like now (especially at the bottom near the water crossing, sand and puddles) as i am planning to do a few laps around Cascades this weekend.

Have not ridden Cascades for about a year now.

The weather is predicted to be ok this week.

Also any other takers? Sunday and around 8.30 start.

Tien.

Fluid Trainer

I'm thinking about getting a Jet Black fluid trainer... found a website that has them for $250. Does anyone else have one of these? Are they quiet enough to use while watching TV?
