Amber/Some Issues

Road from epping to browns waterhole and back this morning, bit wet on the trail near cheltnam, at the creek crossing between whale rock and the big hill upto pennent hills park, one causeway has been washed away (must have been amazing to see) and a big tree down across the track. everything else is all good, a couple of small puddles.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

Went for a trundle in there on Sunday myself. Would have been amazing to see when we had the big wet a few weeks back. The debris that is stuck up in the tree's well above the banks of the rather large gully/creek would have put the water lever up from 1/2ft up to well over 3/4meters in some places. Massive logs washed all over the place. Rocks well above the normal waterline that were formerly covered in moss were ground back to bare stone.
Incredible power. Water is the trails greatest foe, not us lot.
Hopefully in time Mr Ken Higgs will grasp this REALITY and understand that we stand to be his potentially biggest allies should he choose to loose the sensationalist and prejudicial nature of his communication.

Oh back to the point .... Us Bike riders are as helpful as concerned and protective of our natural surrounds as walkers. I came across a ruptured sewer line on Sunday afternoon whilst riding. (pretty stinky) marked it with the GPS rolled home swearing I'd never eat curry again! This morning I had a chat with this nice bloke from the water board as he walked down the trail to eventually find it (they don’t use gps? only the UBD) . It has been running since the big wet by the looks and hadn't been reported till now obviously as he was out there about an hour after I called (nice quick response I might add)
It was making its way right down into the creek that feeds Lane Cove River. It was at least a 2ft round pipe just becoming exposed underneath a firetrail on a climb. Had it really gone bust there could been a proliferation of floaters punching down Lane Cove river that would defy description .... Do I write this to seek praise, shit no.
I write this to draw attention to the fact that if we as bike riders are somewhat useful in covering a good bit of territory and keeping a good eye on the place. Any one of you would have done the same thing I’m sure, possibly even quicker (left GPS at home on Mon opps!).
We are kind of the eyes and ears of the trail so to speak. If other green groups like us want to keep the true perpetrators i.e.: moto's and 4wds out of these area's we are about the BEST solution they have on hand should they seek to understand this and work together as has been gestured...

Time will tell.....

I ride there a fair bit however my bicycle has been in the shop for weeks getting the fork and stuff overhauled.

Looking forward to seeing how it's changed

If you put Ranger Simon Nicol (LCNP) into your phone 0427 957 915 you could call/txt him. He said he was happy to talk to any riders about any issues at the meeting late 2009, and he and his colleagues seemed like nice people.

The power of water is amazing, the roads and roofs channel water straight into the creeks.

Went down there today from Canoon Rd right down to De Burghs Bridge. Sandy beaches at the bottom of any slopes. The river has run over any low sections of the track, but not too much damage other than serious scouring. River has probably been 5m high.

The bottom end would be a great place for some new track to get around the "hike a bike" section.

Ive been to lane Cove National Park and all I found was Bush walking trails (Hike-a-bike) and paved roads. Where are these supposed rideable trails. Would love to see something on google maps/earth.

The rideable stuff is all upstream from De Burgh's bridge (Ryde Rd). Best accessed from the end of Vimiera Rd North Ryde (or Kissing Point Rd South Turramurra). Follow the concrete cycle path down into the valley. There is plenty of riding in there upstream and downstream and its hard to get lost in a valley.

I don't have GPS stuff, but STEPS produce a map that has all the detail you could ever want.
