Did the guys take you up Bees nest Hill? A killer climb
I went down Bees Nest Tim but Todd was keen to show off his handy work, so he led the rest back along the ridge to the start of his stuff and I met them near the Grotto.
A fun day and a good bunch of guys.
After a couple of hours blasting around Yellowmundie in the morning, we were grateful for small mercies!
Thanks for showing us around. That 29er of yours looks sweet, BH
Was a shame to miss out on the Shaw's descent - It's fun scaring people with how fast we blast down there; I regularly hit over 50km/hr and don't brake until the last second before the corners.
You didn't really miss much without Bee's nest - its just 10-20 minutes of pain depending on your fitness and commitment. But it is a Winmalee feature that needs to be ridden and conquered if you're game.
The run down the fall line, the firetrail and through the grotto is definately the highlight - once you've done it a few times you just fly through it all.
What bike were you on Hawkeye? I remember Hans, 2 Peters and a Chris? can't really remember many other names.............
I'm Ian, the dude on the 9.9 that turned up late from the opposite direction.........
I was the guy in the white helmet and shoes on the silver Cannondale with the leaky front tyre. Thanks for spotting that, by the way. Was down to 10psi... I'd assumed it was just sandy soils. Seemed to be fine after I put more air in it.
Now I see why downhillers have big-ass discs on their bikes - the rotors on mine had gone blue by the time we got to the bottom of what I think you called The Grotto. That's the first time I can recall the smell of hot brake pads being so strong!
I figured some mercy was in order and stayed up on the ridge, the fall line and grotto run are in great nick at the moment, very thankful that both places handle rain exceptionally, now that the first part of the ride through the nursery single track is handling water it is making it so much easier, now to keep out the quad bikers and the moto's, in a perfect world we would be able, although the quad bike has stopped going in.
Next time we are thinking a Mt York/Scribblies jaunt?
Sounds great
