Mount Annan Botanic Garden update for 22 Nov
Rode early Saturday morning (benefit of being a "Friend of the Garden"). 80% of the new section on the advanced loop is open - is soft and loose and will need a few thousand wheels to bed it down (Jetblack 24hr?). New section cuts out 500m of the fast, rough downhill firetrail and replaces it with more than a kilometre of single track - good mix of dirt jumps and berms. Still some work to go with a big north-shore style berm / wall under construction and another 300m or so of extra single track.
New section keeps with the nature of the rest of the track. Good fun but lots of short sharp climbs.

So this replaces the grassy firetrail at the very northern end of the track after you have ridden the double table tops with the pinch climb then hit the single track and it opens up to hit the firetrail?
Yep, firetrail recovery gone. I love the new bits, not sure about one of the bridged log rollovers but it completely changes the lap. You no longer get a good recovery after flogging yourself up the climb, you're working again straight away. Unfortunately I can't do the 24hr but it will be interesting to see how it changes lap strategies and times.
Agreed, I rode there yesterday , no rest on the lap now and a lot of the new bits are out in the open. At 40 degrees like it was yesterday makes for a tough lap .
I only rode the new sections not fenced off but it added about 4 minutes to my lap times from the 2012 24hr. Plus probably another 1.30 for the other bits . Looking forward to racing on it. Hopefully cooler next weekend.
