Perimeter/Long/Cowan from Durumbil Rd
Skipping part of Perimeter but including Cowan and sniggle.
Durumbil Road (end of Echunga - also known as 'Japanese School') entry is handy after rain as the part of Perimeter East of there is renowned for getting waterlogged.
Adding Cowan trail boosts the vertical and distance to almost the same as the classic route in this case.
Perimeter + Long Trails
'Classic' Terrey Hills ride from shops to end of Long Trail and return.
Park at the usual meeting point and ride past the RFS station bearing right.
You'll cross by the side of a playing field and onto Cowrang Ave. Turn left and roll down here, bearing right down Nerang Ave to the trail head.
This is the start of the dirt. Enter the track which takes a 90 degree turn left almost immediately.
Follow this along for 6.22km. There are a few side trails on the way, but ignore them. The turn for Long trail is signposted and a right turn tee junction. Take that and ride to the end of the trail where there is a nice view to enjoy:
Bairne + Soldiers Point + Portuguese + Topham Tracks
Easy out and back along Bairne tracks followed by slightly harder Topham Track.
There's a beautiful view over to the Basin from the end of Soldiers Point:
Cascades from St Ives
From St Ives with 3 big, 1 small climbs.
There are many ways to ride at Cascades which feels a lot like a maze to begin. Here's one of those options which takes in a little bit of everything:
Starting at St Ives Oval, head down the trail (Cascades Track) and bear left at the second junction. This is Lower Cambourne...
... which will take you across a creek...
... and to the junction with Heath Track & Bare Creek Track (following the route on this page, you will be riding towards the camera):
Duck Hole + Chiltern + Centre
Similar to the Duck Hole + Centre loop plus Chiltern track added for some tougher climbing.
Duck Hole + Centre Track
If we describe this as an 'easy loop' that is a bit deceptive as there are a couple of nasty climbs, but also some fun water bar filled down hills. Nothing too technical though, this is a pure XC loop.
From the shops head off towards McCarrs Creek Road and North along there, turning left at number 301/303.
100 metres or so of bitumen then through the gate to the ride proper. It starts a bit rocky and there are a couple of ups and downs but nothing too major. Things flatten out and can be a bit sandy along here, but then you come to the big downhill (you'll know when you get there). Weeeeeeeee.... but take it easy - some large channels can form in front of the water bars to catch unwary riders out.
Mont '07 Circuit
The well known (to those riding this for 24 hours!) course used for the 2007 Mont.
Recording of a practice lap:
Not much vertical in this, Paul's Pinch and the following off camber downhill section is the trickiest part from a technical angle. Run down to the start/finish easily the pick for fun stuff.
